Ivan Campo and the Bizarre Job Application

Former Bolton player Ivan Campo has offered his ‘expertise’ to the Trotters following the sacking of Owen Coyle.

The move comes despite the ex-Spanish international obtaining no formal coaching experience since hanging up his boots in 2010.

Posting on his Twitter account, Campo tweeted:

“After to know what its happening in the BOLTON FAMILY I want to say that of corse I would like to help the club. I love very special moment in my life. Big SAM. Nolan. Davo. JJ Okocha. Jussy, Djorksef, Hierro And all FANS OF BWCG. My Family.

“Only I need to receive a call OF PHIL GARTSIDE and I will GO to BOLTON IMMEDITALY TO HELP TO THE CLUB WITH MY EXPERIENCE. Ok. I would try to speak WITH PHIL GARTSIDE And after meeting the fans will know of I will GO again to Bolton or NOT.”

Ladbrokes are currently listing Campo at 33/1 to be given the reins at The Reebok Stadium, equalling recently unemployed Steve Kean and Hull boss Steve Bruce.

John Obi Mikel Quits Twitter

The official Twitter account of John Obi Mikel has been deleted amid rumours of racist abuse being sent to the Chelsea midfielder.

The 25-year old had taken to Twitter to apologise for his mistakes during Chelsea’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Juventus.

Chelsea originally stated that the timing of Mikel’s profile deletion was coincidental, but have also admitted that the police have been informed.

This is an unfortunate example of one of negatives of Twitter. Along with the positive comments that fans can send directly to a football player’s personal Twitter account, there will always be the ability for vile abuse to be sent as well. In our previous article, we shown that Eniola Aluko, striker for England Ladies, had been affected by the ‘poisonous’ responses she had received following a particular performance.

Coincedence or not for Mikel’s profile deletion, tonight’s incident has brought to light a negative aspect to the digital social age we are all immersed in.

In the past few years, social media has developed to allow for a greater connection between fans and football stars. Prior to the tweets and status updates, public online profiles of football players were few and far between. However, we have stumbled across the old Bebo profile of Andy Carroll, which includes some very interesting insights into the teenage striker.

Carroll, as would be expected from the former Toon star, has a Newcastle United theme running throughout his profile.

The on-loan striker and media-christened ‘bad lad’ also listed his favourite film as ‘The Jungle Book’ and having a phobia of spiders.

It just goes to show that the internet does not discriminate against your status. Whether you’re an upcoming youth team player or an international superstar, if you put information online it will remain there for a very long time (whether you like it or not!).
